Iggy and the Stooges were an American rock band from Ann Arbor, Michigan, whose raw, aggressive sound helped lay the foundations for punk rock. Led by the wild, unpredictable Iggy Pop, the band created some of the most visceral rock music ever recorded on albums like 'The Stooges,' 'Fun House,' and 'Raw Power.' Guitarist Ron Asheton's distorted riffs and Iggy's confrontational performances—which included self-mutilation and crowd diving—established templates that punk would follow. Though commercially unsuccessful initially, their influence proved immense, with punk, grunge, and alternative rock artists citing them as crucial inspirations. The Stooges reunited in 2003 with the surviving Asheton brothers, demonstrating their continued relevance. Their legacy as one of rock's most important and influential bands is now firmly established.
