If were a British jazz rock band formed in 1969 who became one of the leading acts in the progressive jazz-rock fusion movement. The band featured a powerful horn section and combined jazz improvisation with rock energy, creating a sound that appealed to fans of both genres. Their albums, including 'If' and 'If 2,' showcased their sophisticated arrangements and instrumental prowess. If were part of the vibrant early 1970s British progressive scene that also produced bands like Colosseum and Nucleus. Vocalist J.W. Hodkinson's soulful delivery added an accessible element to their complex music. Though they disbanded in 1975, If's influence on jazz-rock fusion and progressive rock endured among fans of adventurous music from the era.
