Ian Matthews is a British singer and musician who was a founding member of Fairport Convention before pursuing a solo career that explored folk rock, country rock, and singer-songwriter traditions. His distinctive, gentle vocal style graced both Fairport's early recordings and his subsequent work with Matthews Southern Comfort, whose version of Joni Mitchell's 'Woodstock' became a UK number one hit in 1970.
