Ian Hunter is a British singer-songwriter best known as the lead vocalist and principal songwriter of Mott the Hoople. His gravelly voice and intelligent songwriting defined the band's glam rock sound, particularly on their David Bowie-penned hit 'All the Young Dudes.' Hunter's solo career produced the classic 'Once Bitten, Twice Shy,' later covered by Great White. His songwriting influenced artists from The Clash to R.E.M., who covered his song 'All the Way from Memphis.' Hunter's solo albums combined rock energy with literate, observational lyrics that chronicled rock and roll life. His long collaboration with guitarist Mick Ronson produced some of his finest work. Hunter continued recording and performing into his eighties, demonstrating remarkable longevity and continued artistic vitality.
