Ian Gillan is a British singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of Deep Purple, one of the pioneering bands of hard rock and heavy metal. His powerful, wide-ranging voice defined classics like 'Smoke on the Water,' 'Highway Star,' and 'Child in Time,' establishing him as one of rock's greatest vocalists. Gillan's career with Deep Purple has spanned multiple eras, interrupted by solo projects and a brief stint as Black Sabbath's vocalist on 'Born Again.'
