Artist: I Start Counting
Genre: Synth-Pop/Electronic
I Start Counting were a British electronic duo consisting of Simon Leonard and David Baker, who later achieved greater success as Fortran 5 and Komputer. Active in the mid-1980s, their synthesizer-based music drew heavily from Kraftwerk's electronic minimalism while adding their own British sensibility. Their albums on the Mute label showcased their interest in technology-themed songwriting and precise electronic production. Though they never achieved mainstream commercial success, I Start Counting developed a cult following among electronic music enthusiasts. Their work represented the more experimental, European-influenced end of British synth-pop. The duo's subsequent projects continued exploring electronic music's possibilities, maintaining their influence within the genre.
