Artist: Hula
Genre: Industrial/Electronic
Hula were a British industrial and experimental electronic band from Sheffield, active during the 1980s. The band emerged from the fertile Sheffield electronic scene that also produced Cabaret Voltaire and The Human League, though Hula pursued a darker, more abrasive direction. Their music combined industrial rhythms, experimental textures, and confrontational aesthetics typical of the post-industrial movement. Hula released material on Red Rhino Records and other independent labels, earning respect within the industrial music community. Their sound contributed to the development of British industrial music, influencing subsequent artists who embraced darker electronic territories. While operating below mainstream radar, Hula represented the adventurous spirit of 1980s British electronic experimentation and Sheffield's importance to industrial music development.
