Hotlegs was a British rock group formed in 1970 that would evolve into the hugely successful 10cc. The band featured Eric Stewart, Lol Creme, Kevin Godley, and Graham Gouldman—all of whom had previous experience as musicians and songwriters. Hotlegs achieved an unexpected international hit with 'Neanderthal Man,' a novelty song built around a primitive drum pattern that reached number two in the UK. This success demonstrated the commercial instincts and studio expertise that would characterize 10cc's later work. Hotlegs released one album before transforming into 10cc, where the members would achieve far greater success with their sophisticated art-pop. Hotlegs thus represents an important transitional phase in the careers of four exceptionally talented British musicians.
