Artist: Hope Of The States
Genre: Indie Rock
Hope of the States were a British indie rock band from Chichester, active from 2000 to 2006. The band was known for their ambitious, orchestral approach to indie rock, incorporating strings and brass into their expansive sound. Their debut album 'The Lost Riots' (2004) received critical acclaim for its cinematic scope and emotional intensity. The band's career was marked by tragedy when guitarist Jimmy Lawrence took his own life in 2004, shortly before the album's release. Despite this devastating loss, the remaining members completed and released the album in his memory. Their music represented the ambitious end of mid-2000s British indie, drawing comparisons to Elbow and Arcade Fire. Though short-lived, Hope of the States demonstrated the potential for British indie rock to embrace orchestral grandeur.
