Artist: High
Genre: Alternative Rock
The High were a British alternative rock band from Manchester, active in the early 1990s as part of the Madchester and baggy scenes. The band's sound combined the psychedelic rock and dance influences characteristic of the Manchester scene, drawing comparisons to contemporaries like The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. They released albums on the London Records label and developed a following within the British indie scene. Their music represented the guitar-based side of the Madchester movement, featuring jangly guitars and groovy rhythms that defined the era. Though they never achieved the commercial breakthrough of some contemporaries, The High contributed to the rich musical tapestry of early 1990s Manchester, a scene that would prove enormously influential on subsequent British guitar pop and the Britpop movement that followed.
