Artist: Heaven
Genre: Hard Rock
Heaven 17 is a British synth-pop band formed in Sheffield in 1980 by Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh after they left The Human League, along with vocalist Glenn Gregory. The band's name came from a fictional group mentioned in Anthony Burgess's 'A Clockwork Orange.' Their debut album 'Penthouse and Pavement' became a landmark of early 1980s electronic pop, featuring the hit 'Temptation.' The band combined sophisticated synthesizer arrangements with socially conscious lyrics addressing capitalism and politics. Heaven 17 were also part of the British Electric Foundation production collective, working with various artists. Their influence on synth-pop and electronic music was substantial, with their polished production and intelligent approach inspiring subsequent generations. The band continued performing and recording, maintaining a devoted following among fans of 1980s electronic music.
