Artist: Groundhogs
Genre: Blues Rock
The Groundhogs were a British blues rock band formed in 1963, led by guitarist and vocalist Tony McPhee. Initially a straightforward blues outfit, they evolved into one of Britain's most innovative and heavy blues-rock bands of the early 1970s. Their classic lineup produced influential albums like 'Thank Christ for the Bomb,' 'Split,' and 'Who Will Save the World?' which showcased McPhee's distinctive guitar work and the band's progressive approach to blues-based rock. The Groundhogs were known for their extended improvisations, politically charged lyrics, and powerful live performances. McPhee's guitar technique, which incorporated feedback and distortion in creative ways, influenced subsequent generations of rock guitarists. Despite never achieving massive commercial success, the band maintained a devoted following and are considered cult heroes of British blues-rock.
