Artist: Graham Parker
Genre: Pub Rock/New Wave
Graham Parker is a British singer-songwriter who emerged from the pub rock scene in the mid-1970s to become one of the most critically acclaimed artists of his generation. With his backing band the Rumour, Parker released a string of influential albums including 'Howlin' Wind,' 'Heat Treatment,' and 'Squeezing Out Sparks,' which are considered classics of angry, literate rock. His passionate vocal delivery, sharp songwriting, and blend of rock, soul, and new wave influences earned comparisons to Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen. Parker's lyrics addressed personal and political subjects with wit and intensity. Though commercial success largely eluded him, he maintained a dedicated following and continued releasing quality albums for decades. His influence on the new wave movement and alternative rock is widely acknowledged by critics and fellow musicians alike.
