Artist: Gong
Genre: Progressive Rock/Space Rock
Gong is a Franco-British progressive rock and space rock band formed in Paris in 1967 by Australian musician Daevid Allen. The band became known for their surreal, psychedelic sound and elaborate mythology centered around flying teapots and a planet called Gong. Their 'Radio Gnome Invisible' trilogy of albums from the early 1970s established their unique blend of space rock, jazz fusion, and whimsical humor. The band featured an ever-changing lineup including guitarist Steve Hillage and keyboardist Tim Blake, who brought jazz and electronic influences. Gong's experimental approach and countercultural ethos made them cult favorites in the progressive rock world. Various iterations of the band continued performing and recording for decades, with their influence extending into electronic, ambient, and experimental music. Gong remains a beloved institution in progressive and psychedelic rock.
