Girl was a British rock band formed in 1979 that became notable for launching the careers of several important figures in hard rock. The band featured Phil Lewis, who later fronted L.A. Guns, and guitarist Phil Collen, who left to join Def Leppard. Their glam-influenced hard rock sound, showcased on albums 'Sheer Greed' and 'Wasted Youth,' combined catchy melodies with heavy guitars and glamorous image. The band was managed by Andy Taylor of Duran Duran before his own fame. Though Girl never achieved major commercial success, they were influential in the development of the British glam metal sound that would flourish in the 1980s. Their alumni's later success in other bands demonstrates the talent within the group, and Girl remains an interesting footnote in the history of British hard rock.
