Gillan was a British hard rock band led by vocalist Ian Gillan during his hiatus from Deep Purple in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The band featured guitarist Bernie Tormé and later Janick Gers, who would go on to join Iron Maiden. Gillan achieved considerable success in the UK with their energetic brand of hard rock, scoring hits like 'Trouble,' 'New Orleans,' and 'Nightmare.' Their albums 'Mr. Universe,' 'Glory Road,' and 'Future Shock' showcased Gillan's powerful vocals in a slightly different context than his Purple work. The band was known for their humorous approach and Gillan's charismatic stage presence. Though relatively short-lived, the band produced quality hard rock that bridged the gap between classic hard rock and the emerging new wave of British heavy metal. Gillan disbanded when Ian rejoined Deep Purple in 1984.
