Gamma was an American rock band formed in 1979 by guitarist Ronnie Montrose, founder of the influential hard rock band Montrose. The band combined hard rock with progressive and pop elements, creating a polished sound that showcased Montrose's guitar work alongside strong melodies and keyboard textures. Their self-titled debut album and follow-up 'Gamma 2' featured vocalist Davey Pattison and received positive reviews for their sophisticated approach to American rock. The band achieved some commercial success, particularly with songs like 'Voyager' and 'Thunder & Lightning.' Gamma represented Ronnie Montrose's musical evolution toward a more textured, less heavy sound while maintaining technical proficiency. Though the band went through various hiatuses and reunions, their early albums remain respected examples of late 1970s/early 1980s American rock.
