Fun Boy Three were an English new wave band formed in 1981 by three former members of The Specials: Terry Hall, Neville Staple, and Lynval Golding. After leaving The Specials, the trio created a more experimental, minimalist sound moving away from ska toward diverse influences including African music, dub, and avant-garde pop. Their debut featured 'The Lunatics (Have Taken Over the Asylum)' and showcased unconventional arrangements. The band achieved commercial success collaborating with Bananarama on 'It Ain't What You Do.' Terry Hall's deadpan delivery and stripped-down production created a distinctive atmosphere. Though they disbanded after two years, Fun Boy Three produced innovative, socially conscious pop music influencing alternative pop.
