Fish (Derek William Dick) is a Scottish singer and lyricist who gained fame as Marillion's vocalist before launching a successful solo career. Born in Edinburgh in 1958, Fish became known for theatrical stage presence, poetic lyrics, and powerful voice during Marillion's 1980s peak. His time with Marillion produced classics like 'Misplaced Childhood' featuring lengthy, narrative lyrics. After leaving in 1988, Fish's solo career allowed greater freedom, releasing 'Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors' (1990) showcasing songwriting depth. His solo work continued progressive rock tradition while incorporating diverse influences. Fish's lyrics often addressed social issues and Scottish identity with poetic sophistication. Though commercial success varied, Fish maintained devoted following, earning respect for artistic integrity.
