Fat Larry's Band was an American soul and funk group from Philadelphia formed in early 1970s led by vocalist 'Fat' Larry James. The group achieved greatest success during late 1970s-early 1980s with smooth soul, funk, and disco blend. Their biggest hit 'Zoom' (1982) became international success particularly in UK where it topped charts. The song's sophisticated production made it early 1980s staple. Larry James's death in 1987 at age 38 ended the band. 'Zoom' remains beloved classic regularly played and sampled ensuring Fat Larry's Band's place.
