Faces were an English rock band formed in 1969 from Small Faces, featuring Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on guitar, and Ronnie Lane on bass. The band epitomized early 1970s rock excess and camaraderie, creating a loose, boozy sound emphasizing good-time rock. Their blend of rock, soul, and folk with Stewart's raspy vocals and Wood's slide guitar produced classics like 'Stay With Me' and 'Ooh La La.' Faces were renowned for raucous live performances where spontaneity took precedence over polish. Stewart's burgeoning solo success eventually overshadowed the band. Despite lasting only six years, Faces left an indelible mark, influencing punk's attitude and countless rock bands' approach to performance.
