Artist: Erroll Garner
Genre: Jazz
Erroll Garner was an American jazz pianist born in 1921, known for his distinctive, orchestral approach to jazz piano and his composition 'Misty,' one of jazz's most recorded standards. Garner never learned to read music but possessed extraordinary talent and creativity. His playing style was unique, featuring a distinctive rhythmic delay between left and right hands and lush, orchestral chordal work. Garner's ability to swing and his joyful approach to piano made him hugely popular with both jazz audiences and the general public. His album 'Concert by the Sea' became one of the best-selling jazz albums. Garner performed internationally and maintained popularity across decades. He passed away in 1977. Garner represented jazz piano at its most accessible and joyful, demonstrating that technical virtuosity and popular appeal could coexist. His influence on jazz piano and popular music through 'Misty' continues.
