Eric Carmen is an American singer-songwriter born in 1949, who first achieved success as leader of the power pop band Raspberries before launching a successful solo career. With Raspberries, Carmen created melodic power pop influenced by The Beatles and British Invasion. His solo career produced massive hits including 'All by Myself' (based on Rachmaninoff), 'Never Gonna Fall in Love Again,' and 'Hungry Eyes' (from Dirty Dancing). Carmen's music combined power pop energy with romantic ballads and classical influences. His ability to craft memorable melodies and his powerful voice made him successful across both rock and adult contemporary markets. Carmen's songwriting incorporated classical themes while remaining accessible, demonstrating sophisticated pop craft. He represents power pop and romantic pop-rock at its most melodically accomplished, creating songs that balanced intelligence with commercial appeal. Carmen continues to be celebrated for his songwriting abilities.
