Ennio Morricone was an Italian composer born in 1928, who became one of cinema's greatest and most prolific composers. Morricone scored over 500 films and television productions, creating some of the most iconic film music ever written. His scores for Sergio Leone's 'spaghetti westerns' including 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,' 'Once Upon a Time in the West,' and 'A Fistful of Dollars' revolutionized film music. Morricone's innovative use of unconventional instruments, electric guitars, and avant-garde techniques created distinctive soundscapes. He also scored 'The Mission,' 'Cinema Paradiso,' and 'The Hateful Eight,' among countless others. Morricone won two Academy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and numerous other honors. He passed away in 2020. Morricone's influence on film music is immeasurable, demonstrating that film scores could be both artistically ambitious and emotionally powerful. His music transcended cinema to become concert repertoire.
