EMF were an English alternative rock band formed in the Forest of Dean in 1989, known for their energetic blend of alternative rock, indie dance, and sampling. The band achieved massive success with their debut single 'Unbelievable' in 1990, which topped charts worldwide and became a defining song of early 1990s alternative rock. Their music combined guitar rock with electronic beats, samples, and indie dance influences, representing the 'indie dance' or 'baggy' movement. EMF's debut album 'Schubert Dip' was hugely successful. Despite initial commercial success, the band struggled to sustain momentum and split in 1997. EMF reunited several times for tours. They represented early 1990s British alternative rock's dance-influenced wing, demonstrating that indie rock could incorporate electronic production and achieve mainstream success. 'Unbelievable' remains an iconic early 1990s alternative rock anthem.
