Elvin Jones was an American jazz drummer born in 1927, who became one of the most influential drummers in jazz history. Jones revolutionized jazz drumming as a member of John Coltrane's classic quartet (1960-1966), developing a polyrhythmic, propulsive style that became fundamental to modern jazz drumming. His powerful, dense rhythmic approach created layers of rhythm that pushed the music forward while providing space for soloists.
