Schwarzkopf was particularly renowned for her interpretations of Mozart, Richard Strauss, and Hugo Wolf. Her voice was characterized by beauty of tone, technical perfection, and exceptional intelligence in text interpretation. Schwarzkopf's recordings of Strauss's 'Four Last Songs,' Mozart operas, and Wolf lieder are considered definitive. She was also an exceptional recitalist, bringing sophisticated interpretation to art songs. Schwarzkopf's career included performances at major opera houses worldwide and extensive recording work. She retired from singing in 1979 and devoted herself to teaching. Schwarzkopf passed away in 2006.
