Artist: Eddie Condon
Genre: Jazz

Eddie Condon was an American jazz guitarist and bandleader born in 1905, who became a central figure in Chicago-style jazz and traditional jazz revival. Condon was more important as an organizer, promoter, and rhythm guitarist than as a soloist. He led jam sessions and bands featuring the greatest traditional jazz musicians, keeping Chicago-style jazz alive during the swing era and beyond. Condon's clubs in New York became headquarters for traditional jazz. His guitar playing provided rhythmic foundation rather than solos, typical of early jazz guitar. Condon also worked in radio and television, helping bring jazz to wider audiences. His wit and personality made him a beloved figure in jazz. He passed away in 1973. Condon represented jazz's traditional wing, demonstrating that earlier styles could remain vital even as jazz evolved. His role in preserving and promoting traditional jazz made him important beyond his musical contributions.
