Eat were a British indie pop band formed in London in 1986, known for their jangly guitar pop and energetic performances. The band consisted of Ange Boxall, Steven Boxall, Paul Hooper, and Duncan Jarrett. Eat achieved moderate success in the late 1980s with their infectious indie pop sound influenced by The Byrds and 1960s pop. They released two albums on Fiction Records and gained support from BBC Radio 1. Despite their catchy songs and critical acclaim in the indie press, Eat never achieved major commercial breakthrough and disbanded in 1990. They represented the UK's late 1980s indie pop scene, creating melodic guitar pop that balanced underground credibility with pop accessibility. Eat's music demonstrated the continued vitality of jangly guitar pop during a period dominated by alternative rock's more aggressive sounds. They remain appreciated by indie pop enthusiasts.
