Easterhouse were a British indie rock band formed in Manchester in 1983, known for their politically conscious post-punk. Named after the Easterhouse housing estate in Glasgow, the band created politically engaged music addressing social issues, particularly regarding Scotland and working-class life. Their sound combined post-punk with Scottish folk influences and political lyrics. Easterhouse's music was characterized by Andy Perry's vocals, atmospheric guitars, and commitment to left-wing political themes. Despite critical acclaim and support from British music press, the band never achieved commercial breakthrough. They split in the late 1980s. Easterhouse represented British indie rock's politically engaged wing, demonstrating that post-punk could maintain political commitment beyond punk's initial explosion. They influenced later politically conscious British indie bands and remain appreciated by fans of intelligent, politically aware alternative rock.
