Earthquake were an American rock band (often spelled 'Earth Quake') formed in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1966. The band created hard-driving rock and roll with power pop influences, achieving cult success in the 1970s. Earthquake's music combined garage rock energy with melodic sensibilities and tight musicianship. They were part of the Bay Area rock scene but never achieved the success of contemporaries like Journey. Despite releasing several albums and building a devoted following, Earthquake remained underground favorites. Their music has been rediscovered by power pop and garage rock enthusiasts. Earthquake represented Bay Area rock's more straightforward, hard-rocking wing, demonstrating that not all San Francisco bands were psychedelic or progressive.
