Dubstar were a British synth-pop band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1992, consisting of Sarah Blackwood, Chris Wilkie, and Steve Hillier. The band achieved success in the mid-1990s with sophisticated synth-pop influenced by electronic music and indie pop. Their biggest hits included 'Stars,' 'Not So Manic Now,' and 'Elevator Song.' Dubstar's music featured Blackwood's distinctive vocals, lush synthesizer arrangements, and melancholic yet accessible melodies. They achieved both critical acclaim and chart success, appealing to indie and pop audiences. Despite their initial success, Dubstar split in 2000. They reformed in 2015 with new vocalist and continue recording. Dubstar represented 1990s British synth-pop's more sophisticated wing, demonstrating that electronic pop could be both commercially successful and artistically credible during Britpop's dominance.
