Artist: Dr Feelgood
Genre: Pub Rock
Dr. Feelgood are an English pub rock band formed on Canvey Island in 1971, becoming one of the most influential bands in British rock. The original lineup featured Lee Brilleaux, Wilko Johnson, John B. Sparks, and The Big Figure. Dr. Feelgood's raw, energetic R&B and rock and roll influenced the punk movement and revitalized British rock. Their 1976 live album 'Stupidity' topped the UK charts. Wilko Johnson's distinctive choppy guitar style and manic stage presence, combined with Brilleaux's powerful vocals, created an explosive live act. After Johnson left, the band continued with various lineups. Despite Brilleaux's death in 1994, Dr. Feelgood has continued performing. The band represented British pub rock at its grittiest and most authentic, influencing punk and demonstrating that raw, energetic rock and roll could compete with progressive rock's dominance in the mid-1970s.
