Double Trouble are the American blues rock band that served as Stevie Ray Vaughan's backing band, formed in Austin, Texas, in the late 1970s. The group originally consisted of drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon (later joined by keyboardist Reese Wynans). As Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, they achieved major success, revitalizing blues rock in the 1980s. Albums like 'Texas Flood' and 'Couldn't Stand the Weather' showcased Vaughan's virtuoso guitar playing and the band's tight, powerful blues rock. After Vaughan's tragic death in 1990, the band occasionally reformed for special projects and tours. Double Trouble represented blues rock's 1980s revival, providing the foundation for Vaughan's guitar virtuosity while proving themselves as musicians in their own right. They helped reestablish blues rock as a vital contemporary genre.
