The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965, consisting of Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore. They became one of the most influential and controversial rock bands, pioneering psychedelic rock and creating a dark, poetic sound. The Doors' music featured Morrison's distinctive vocals and shamanistic stage presence, Manzarek's keyboard bass, and Krieger's blues-influenced guitar. Hits included 'Light My Fire,' 'Break On Through,' 'Riders on the Storm,' and 'L.A. Woman.' Morrison's poetic lyrics, charismatic performances, and tragic death in 1971 at age 27 made him a rock legend. The Doors' influence on rock music is enormous, demonstrating that rock could be poetic, dark, and artistically ambitious. Their music continues to inspire and influence artists across genres.
