Donna Summer was an American singer born LaDonna Gaines in 1948, who became the 'Queen of Disco' and one of the most successful recording artists of all time. Summer's powerful voice and Giorgio Moroder's production created the template for disco music with hits like 'Love to Love You Baby,' 'I Feel Love,' 'Hot Stuff,' 'Bad Girls,' and 'Last Dance.' Her music combined disco, R&B, rock, and electronic elements, with 'I Feel Love' pioneering electronic dance music. Summer won five Grammy Awards and sold over 100 million records worldwide. She successfully transitioned beyond disco into adult contemporary and dance-pop. Despite disco's decline, Summer maintained her career and reputation. She passed away in 2012, remembered as a pioneering artist whose influence on dance music, electronic music, and pop is immeasurable. Summer's voice and Moroder's production revolutionized popular music.
