Peers had hits including 'In a Shady Nook by a Babbling Brook' and 'Please Don't Go.' His style was traditional crooning, appealing to adult audiences with romantic ballads and novelty songs. Peers was hugely popular on radio and in live performance, representing pre-rock and roll popular music. He continued performing into the 1970s, maintaining his appeal with older audiences. Peers passed away in 1973. He represented British popular singing in the immediate post-war period, creating entertainment music that offered comfort and escapism. While rock and roll made his style seem outdated, Peers maintained his audience and represented traditional British entertainment values.
