Artist: Discharge
Genre: Hardcore Punk
Discharge are an English hardcore punk band formed in Stoke-on-Trent in 1977, becoming one of the most influential bands in hardcore punk and extreme metal. Discharge created an extremely fast, aggressive sound that influenced thrash metal, black metal, and grindcore. Their style, characterized by shouted vocals, fast tempos, and apocalyptic lyrics, became known as 'd-beat' after their distinctive drum pattern. Early albums and EPs like 'Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing' are considered hardcore classics. Discharge's anti-war, anti-establishment lyrics and uncompromising sound made them underground heroes. Despite numerous lineup changes, the band has continued across decades. Their influence on extreme music is enormous, with countless metal and punk bands citing them as inspiration. Discharge demonstrated that punk could be even faster and more aggressive than first-wave punk, pioneering sounds that would influence extreme metal.
