Dinah Shore was an American singer and actress born Frances Rose Shore in 1916, who became one of the most popular entertainers of the 1940s and 1950s. Shore's warm, friendly voice and girl-next-door image made her hugely popular. She scored numerous hits including 'Blues in the Night,' 'I'll Walk Alone,' and 'Buttons and Bows.' Shore successfully transitioned from radio to television, hosting several popular variety shows and becoming one of television's first major female personalities. She won numerous Emmy Awards for her television work. Shore was also a successful golfer and hosted an LPGA tournament. She passed away in 1994. Shore represented the all-American entertainer, successfully navigating changing entertainment media while maintaining popularity across five decades. Her contribution to American popular culture extends beyond music into television and entertainment history.
