The Spinners (known as Detroit Spinners in the UK to avoid confusion with a British folk group) are an American soul group formed in Detroit in 1954. The group achieved their greatest success in the 1970s after moving to Atlantic Records and working with producer Thom Bell. Their smooth, sophisticated soul sound produced numerous hits including 'I'll Be Around,' 'Could It Be I'm Falling in Love,' 'The Rubberband Man,' and 'Then Came You' (with Dionne Warwick). The Spinners' music featured lush orchestration, tight harmonies, and lead vocals primarily by Philippé Wynne and later John Edwards. Their success during the 1970s made them one of the most popular soul groups. The Spinners continue performing with various lineups, maintaining their legacy as one of soul music's premier vocal groups and representing Philadelphia soul at its most polished and commercially successful.
