Artist: Davy Graham
Genre: Folk
Davy Graham was a British guitarist born in 1940, who became one of the most influential acoustic guitarists in British folk and folk-jazz. Graham pioneered DADGAD tuning and incorporated jazz, blues, Indian, and Middle Eastern influences into British folk guitar. His instrumental piece 'Anji' became a standard covered by numerous artists including Bert Jansch and Paul Simon. Graham's virtuoso playing and willingness to blend diverse musical traditions influenced countless guitarists including Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin. Albums like 'Folk, Blues & Beyond' showcased his eclectic approach. Despite his influence, Graham struggled with drug addiction and never achieved the commercial success his talent deserved. He passed away in 2008. Graham represented British folk guitar at its most innovative and world-music-influenced, demonstrating that folk could incorporate global influences while maintaining its roots.
