Danny Wilson were a Scottish pop band formed in Dundee in the mid-1980s, consisting of brothers Gary and Kit Clark, and Ged Grimes. The band achieved international success with their 1987 hit 'Mary's Prayer,' which became a Top 30 hit in the US and UK. Their music combined sophisticated pop with soul and jazz influences, featuring Gary Clark's smooth vocals and intelligent songwriting. Despite the success of 'Mary's Prayer,' Danny Wilson was unable to sustain commercial momentum and split in 1991. Gary Clark went on to success as a songwriter for other artists. Danny Wilson represented late 1980s British pop-soul at its most sophisticated, creating polished, intelligent pop that deserved wider success. 'Mary's Prayer' remains a beloved song from the era, showcasing the band's melodic gifts and production skills.
