Dan Reed Network (DRN) were an American funk rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1984, led by Dan Reed. The band created a unique sound combining hard rock, funk, soul, and R&B that set them apart from typical late 1980s rock. Their self-titled debut and album 'Slam' achieved success, particularly in Europe. DRN's music featured Reed's powerful vocals, funky bass lines, and rock guitar, creating an energetic fusion sound. Songs like 'Ritual' and 'Rainbow Child' showcased their ability to blend genres. Despite their talent and critical acclaim, DRN never achieved massive commercial success in the US, though they built a devoted following in Europe. The band split in 1993 but reformed in 2012 and continues performing. Dan Reed Network represented funk rock at its most authentic, successfully blending rock power with funk grooves.
