The Cross were a British rock band formed in 1987 by Queen drummer Roger Taylor as a side project while Queen was on hiatus. The band consisted of Taylor on vocals and rhythm guitar, along with Clayton Moss, Spike Edney, Peter Noone, and Josh Macrae. The Cross allowed Taylor to explore a more straightforward rock sound than Queen's theatrical approach. They released three albums including 'Shove It,' 'Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know,' and 'Blue Rock,' which featured a harder rock sound. While the band toured and built a following, particularly in Europe, they never achieved major commercial success and remained in Queen's shadow. The Cross disbanded in 1993 as Queen resumed activities. The project demonstrated Taylor's talents as a frontman and songwriter outside Queen's context, though it remained a curiosity for Queen fans rather than establishing independent success.
