Country Joe and the Fish were an American psychedelic rock band formed in Berkeley, California, in 1965, led by Country Joe McDonald. The band became one of the most important psychedelic rock groups and symbols of 1960s counterculture. They're best known for their anti-Vietnam War anthem 'I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag,' which became one of the war's most famous protest songs, particularly after their performance at Woodstock. Their music combined psychedelic rock, folk, and political commentary. Albums like 'Electric Music for the Mind and Body' showcased their experimental, acid rock sound. The band was deeply involved in the San Francisco psychedelic scene and political activism. Country Joe McDonald's charismatic performances and the band's willingness to address political issues made them important beyond music. Though they disbanded in the early 1970s, their music remains synonymous with 1960s counterculture and anti-war activism.
