Conflict are an English anarcho-punk band formed in 1981, known for their uncompromising political stance and aggressive punk sound. The band, led by Colin Jerwood, emerged from the UK anarcho-punk movement alongside bands like Crass. Conflict's music was characterized by fast, aggressive punk rock combined with explicitly political lyrics advocating anarchism, animal rights, and anti-war positions. Their confrontational approach extended to their live performances and activism. Albums like 'The Ungovernable Force' and 'Increase the Pressure' are considered anarcho-punk classics. Conflict remained independent throughout their career, releasing music on their own Mortarhate Records label. Despite never seeking commercial success, they maintained a devoted following in punk and activist communities. Conflict represented punk's most politically committed wing, demonstrating that punk could be a vehicle for serious political expression and activism rather than just musical rebellion.
