Artist: Cleo Laine
Genre: Jazz
Dame Cleo Laine is a British jazz and pop singer born in 1927, considered one of the greatest jazz vocalists and known for her incredible vocal range spanning over four octaves. Married to jazz musician John Dankworth, Laine achieved success in both jazz and popular music. Her versatility allowed her to perform everything from jazz standards to Shakespeare. Laine's hits included 'You'll Answer to Me' and collaborations with her husband's orchestra. Her technical abilities, including her ability to scat sing and handle complex vocal lines, made her respected among jazz musicians. Laine performed extensively in musical theater, concerts, and recordings. She was the first artist to receive Grammy nominations in the jazz, popular, and classical categories in the same year. Laine was made a Dame in 1997 for services to music and continues to be celebrated as one of Britain's greatest vocalists.
