CJ Lewis is a British reggae artist who achieved success in the early 1990s with his blend of reggae and dancehall influenced by contemporary R&B and pop. His biggest hit was 'Sweets for My Sweet' in 1994, a reggae cover of The Searchers' 1963 hit, which reached the UK Top 3. Other successful singles included 'Everything Is Alright (Uptight)' and 'Best of My Love.' Lewis's music represented the early 1990s UK reggae crossover phenomenon, where reggae and dancehall artists achieved mainstream pop success. His smooth vocal delivery and accessible reggae-pop sound appealed to broad audiences. Despite initial success, Lewis was unable to sustain his commercial momentum. He represented British reggae's ability to cross over to mainstream pop audiences, demonstrating that reggae could be both authentic and commercially accessible.
