The Christians were a British pop band formed in Liverpool in 1984, consisting of Garry Christian, Russell Christian, Roger Christian, and Henry Priestman. The band achieved significant success in the late 1980s with their soulful pop-rock sound. Their self-titled debut album was a major hit, featuring singles including 'Forgotten Town,' 'Hooverville,' and 'Ideal World.' The Christians' music combined soul, gospel, and rock influences with socially conscious lyrics. The Christian brothers' harmonies and Priestman's songwriting created a distinctive sound. Their cover of 'Words' by the Bee Gees became a hit, as did 'Harvest for the World.' Despite lineup changes (Roger Christian left early on), the band maintained success through the early 1990s. The Christians represented Merseybeat's soul and gospel influences, creating intelligent pop with social awareness. They continue to perform with various lineups, maintaining their following.
