China Crisis are an English new wave band formed in Liverpool in 1979 by vocalist and keyboardist Gary Daly and guitarist Eddie Lundon. The band achieved success in the early-to-mid 1980s with their sophisticated pop sound influenced by jazz and world music. Their hits included 'Wishful Thinking,' 'Working with Fire and Steel,' and 'Black Man Ray.' China Crisis's music was characterized by melodic songwriting, lush production, and incorporation of diverse influences including bossa nova and jazz. They worked with producer Walter Becker of Steely Dan on their album 'Flaunt the Imperfection,' which brought their sound to its most polished. While never achieving massive commercial success, China Crisis built a devoted following with their intelligent, melodic pop. They continue to perform and record, maintaining their reputation for sophisticated, jazz-influenced pop music.
